At Broadoak, we recognise that transferring to a new school is a major step in the life of a young person. We would like to inform you about our preparations to help your child make a smooth transition from primary to secondary school. Below is our programme of transition activities, designed to help you and your child to prepare for this exciting time, get to know the school and to feel confident about making Broadoak your first choice.
We look forward to meeting you throughout the year. If there is anything else you need to know at this stage, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Worswick.
AUTUMN TERM OF YEAR 6
Virtual Open Evening – Launch 8th October 2020
The Open Evening is an extremely important event in the life of all Year 6 children as it will provide both parents and children with the opportunity to look around the school. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions we are unable to invite you in school. To replace this we have put together a Virtual Open Evening in the hope that you can experience the vibrant, friendly atmosphere here at Broadoak and will see the multitude of opportunities available if this is your first choice.
THE SPRING/SUMMER TERM OF YEAR 6
The Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher from Broadoak will visit each partner primary and as many out of catchment school as possible. During this visit they will tell your child about the school and give the children the chance to ask questions. During the Spring/Summer term, based upon the information we have on each child, we will organise the children into House groups, these are mixed ability groups which usually contain at least one child known to your son and daughter from their primary school.
Monday 5th July to Friday 9th July 2020 your child will spend one week at Broadoak and will meet their form tutor, begin to learn their way around the site, go to a range of lessons and meet other children in their class. On Monday the 5th July of this week all parents/carers are invited to visit Broadoak for the “New Parents Welcome Evening”. This will allow you to meet your child’s form tutor, learn about the curriculum, talk about the school and meet the Head of School.
