Year 6 Transition

Home / Parents & Pupils / Year 6 Transition

At Broadoak, we recognise that transferring to a new school is a major step in the life of a young person.  We would like to inform you about our preparations to help your child make a smooth transition from primary to secondary school.  Below is our programme of transition activities, designed to help you and your child to prepare for this exciting time, get to know the school and to feel confident about making Broadoak your first choice.

We look forward to meeting you throughout the year.  If there is anything else you need to know at this stage, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Worswick.

Key dates

The Spring/Summer Term of Year 6

The Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher from Broadoak will visit each partnership primary school and as many out of catchment schools as possible.  During this visit they will tell your child about the school and give the children the chance to ask questions.

During the spring/summer term, based upon the information we have about each child, we will organise the children into house groups.  These are mixed ability groups which usually contain at least one child known to your son or daughter from their primary school.

Kate Simmons Dance Festival

Once again we will be hosting the Kate Simmons Dance Festival this year were the dance school will perform to all of our partnership schools in Partington.  The date for the Dance performance is Wednesday 13th March 2019.  Each year the staff comment on this fabulous event and express how much all of the pupils enjoy the show and the quality of the show certainly raises aspiration for pupils.

Transition Week

Monday 1st July to Friday 5th July your child will spend one week at Broadoak and will meet their tutor and begin to learn their way around the site, go to a range of lessons and meet other children in the class.  On the Monday of this week all parents/carers are invited to visit Broadoak for the “New Parents Welcome Evening”.  This will allow you to meet your child’s Form Tutor, hear about the curriculum, talk about the school and meet the Head of School.

Summer School

Monday 22nd July through to Wednesday 24th July pupils will be invited to attend our three-day Summer school. The day will start at 9.00am and finish at 1.00pm.  Pupils will experience an enriching programme with a focus on enhancing Literacy and Numeracy and variety of creative activities and team challenges, facilitated by Mrs Worswick and other key staff.  There will be a contribution of £1 per day for this event payable on the day.
