During KS3 pupils will learn a range of practical and theoretical content that will develop skills to help with KS4 option subjects. During all three years pupils will study Catering and 3D Design, as well as some STEM. In year 7 pupils will cover Health and Safety/Food (including kitchen equipment), the Eat Well Plate Sections as well as Nutrients in Foods. They will also learn how to use the laser cutter, creating a desk tidy as well as developing drawing skills. Catering practical’s will include making soup, macaroni cheese and short bread!

During Year 8 pupils will learn about Computer Aided Design and use CAD software to develop their drawing and designing skills. They will also get a chance to complete a Catering project which has similarities to a KS4 project. Catering practical’s will include Pizza Bread and sausage rolls!

Year 9 pupils will be given the option to choose an area of Technology to focus on during their final term of the year. They will develop and embed skills to give them an advantage in KS4 and to ensure they are fully ready for the courses they will have opted for in Year 10 and 11. Pupils will create Bolognaise, Chicken Curry and Cheese and Onion pasties. They will also be given the opportunity to design and develop products for a user and in the style of existing artists and designers.

In KS4 pupils will have the opportunity to study one of the two courses stated above. Both courses have been carefully selected to include a balance of practical and written content.
